The country was terrible as he was drowning in the rain of Texas, and at least 135 people were killed. The city of Kerr alone lost 107 people, including more than two tens of children in the Myster Camp.
From afar, it will be easy and even tempting to think that floods like these can never happen to you. That is a long -distance catastrophe.
Not
Given that the details of this tragedy have been taken into account, the list of factors has increased. Sudden fall, caused by climate change. The lack of a comprehensive warning system for public awareness that the Guadelop River is rapidly increasing. The common building in areas known as floods, along with incomplete information about the location, may be at risk.
These are the same elements that can provoke a catastrophe in each state of the country. This is a fact that has played over and over in recent years, with floods in Vermont, Kentucky, North Carolina and elsewhere, sadness and billions of dollars in demolition.
“The State of Kerr is a severe example of what is happening everywhere,” said Robert Freudenberg, Vice President of Energy and Environmental Programs at the Regional Programs Association. “People are at risk because it is at risk and there are more things we have to do.”
The most striking problem is that we build in areas that are prone to floods. Federal Emergency Management Agency or FEMA produces easily available maps that show high -risk locals. However, according to the latest data from the Fire Street Foundation, 7.9 million houses and other structures are in a FEMA flood -driven area that sets a place with 1 % or more chances each year.

In Louisiana, 23 % of the country’s properties are in a FEMA flood area. In Florida is about 17 %. Arkansas, New Mexico and Nebraska may expect less than 10 people, as New Jersey also saw with New York City, heavy rain and floods that killed two people earlier this month.
Texas is in the seventh place in the country and is sitting in a flood area about 800,000 or approximately 6.5 percent of all states. Karr County officials have limited qualifications to prevent people from creating people in these areas, but even when governments are capable of preventing dangerous building projects, they have not historically. Although one study showed that some areas were eventually launching flood development, people continue to build in dangerous places.
“There is an inherent draw to the water we have, but we need to know where the restrictions are,” Freudberg said. “In places where they are really dangerous, we must be harmed to drive people out.”
The city of Kerr is located in an area known as the Flash Alley, and at least four cabin was sitting in a very dangerous “flood” in Camp Aref. Many others stood on the 100 -year -old flood. When the Christian summer camp for girls was expanded in 2019, owners even built more cabins on the way to the water.
